Hadith 1
عَنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَبِي حَفْصٍ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: " إنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ، وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَهِجْرَتُهُ إلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا، أَوْ امْرَأَةٍ يَنْكِحُهَا، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إلَيْهِ "
From Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Deeds are judged only by intentions, and each person shall have only what he intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah and His Messenger, his emigration was for Allah and His Messenger. And whoever emigrated to gain something of this world or to marry a woman, his emigration was for that which he emigrated to."
Hadith 2
عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إذْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ، شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعَرِ، لَا يُرَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ السَّفَرِ، وَلَا يَعْرِفُهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ، حَتَّى جَلَسَ إلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَأَسْنَدَ رُكْبَتَيْهِ إلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِسْلَامِ...
From Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "One day, while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, there appeared before us a man whose clothes were exceedingly white and whose hair was exceedingly black. No sign of travel could be seen on him, and none of us knew him…"
Hadith 3
عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: "بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ: شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ، وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ"
From Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Islam is built on five pillars: the testimony that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, the establishing of prayer, the paying of zakat, the pilgrimage to the Sacred House, and the fast of the month of Ramadan."
Hadith 4
عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم -وَهُوَ الصَّادِقُ الْمَصْدُوقُ-: "إنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يُجْمَعُ خَلْقُهُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا نُطْفَةً، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ عَلَقَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مُضْغَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ يُرْسَلُ إلَيْهِ الْمَلَكُ، فَيَنْفُخُ فِيهِ الرُّوحَ، وَيُؤْمَرُ بِأَرْبَعِ كَلِمَاتٍ: بِكَتْبِ رِزْقِهِ، وَأَجَلِهِ، وَعَمَلِهِ، وَشَقِيٍّ أَمْ سَعِيدٍ..."
From Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — the truthful one, whose word is true — told us: "The creation of each of you is gathered in his mother's womb for forty days as a drop, then he becomes a clot for a similar period, then a lump of flesh for a similar period…"
Hadith 5
عَنْ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أُمِّ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "مَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِي أَمْرِنَا هَذَا مَا لَيْسَ مِنْهُ فَهُوَ رَدٌّ"
From Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever introduces into this affair of ours something that is not part of it, it will be rejected."
Hadith 6
عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: "إنَّ الْحَلَالَ بَيِّنٌ، وَإِنَّ الْحَرَامَ بَيِّنٌ، وَبَيْنَهُمَا أُمُورٌ مُشْتَبِهَاتٌ..."
From An-Nu'man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with them), I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "What is lawful is clear and what is unlawful is clear; and between the two are doubtful matters…"
Hadith 7
عَنْ أَبِي رُقَيَّةَ تَمِيمِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ الدَّارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ". قُلْنَا: لِمَنْ؟ قَالَ: "لِلَّهِ، وَلِكِتَابِهِ، وَلِرَسُولِهِ، وَلِأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَعَامَّتِهِمْ"
From Tamim ad-Dari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet ﷺ said: "Religion is sincerity." We said: "To whom?" He said: "To Allah, to His Book, to His Messenger, to the leaders of the Muslims and to their common folk."
Hadith 8
عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "أُمِرْت أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَشْهَدُوا أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ، وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ؛ فَإِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ عَصَمُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إلَّا بِحَقِّ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى"
From Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I have been commanded to fight people until they testify that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and they establish the prayer and pay the zakat. If they do that, their lives and their property are safe from me, except by the right of Islam. And their reckoning is with Allah."
Hadith 9
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: "مَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ، وَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ، فَإِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ كَثْرَةُ مَسَائِلِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافُهُمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ"
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "What I have forbidden you, avoid. What I have commanded you, do as much of it as you can. Those before you perished only because of their excessive questioning and their disagreement with their prophets."
Hadith 10
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "إنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى طَيِّبٌ لَا يَقْبَلُ إلَّا طَيِّبًا، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِمَا أَمَرَ بِهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ فَقَالَ تَعَالَى: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوا مِنْ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا﴾، وَقَالَ تَعَالَى: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ﴾"
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah is Good and accepts only what is good. Allah commanded the believers what He commanded the messengers. He said: 'O messengers, eat of what is lawful and good and do righteous deeds.' And He said: 'O you who believe, eat of the good things We have provided for you.'"
Hadith 11
عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ سِبْطِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَرَيْحَانَتِهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: حَفِظْت مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "دَعْ مَا يُرِيبُك إلَى مَا لَا يُرِيبُك"
From Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), grandson of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I memorised from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt."
Hadith 12
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "مِنْ حُسْنِ إسْلَامِ الْمَرْءِ تَرْكُهُ مَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ"
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Part of the excellence of a person's Islam is that he leaves what does not concern him."
Hadith 13
عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ خَادِمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لِأَخِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ"
From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the Prophet ﷺ said: "None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."
Hadith 14
عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "لَا يَحِلُّ دَمُ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ إلَّا بِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ: الثَّيِّبُ الزَّانِي، وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ، وَالتَّارِكُ لِدِينِهِ الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ"
From Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The blood of a Muslim is lawful only in three cases: the married person who commits adultery, a life for a life, and the one who abandons his religion and separates from the community."
Hadith 15
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاَللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاَللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ جَارَهُ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاَللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ"
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Let whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day speak well or keep silent. Let whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day honour his neighbour. Let whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day honour his guest."
Hadith 16
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "أَوْصِنِي" قَالَ: "لَا تَغْضَبْ" فَرَدَّدَ مِرَارًا، قَالَ: "لَا تَغْضَبْ"
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), a man said to the Prophet ﷺ: "Give me some advice." He said: "Do not become angry." The man repeated his request several times, and each time he answered: "Do not become angry."
Hadith 17
عَنْ أَبِي يَعْلَى شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "إنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْإِحْسَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، فَإِذَا قَتَلْتُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا الْقِتْلَةَ، وَإِذَا ذَبَحْتُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا الذَّبْحَةَ، وَلْيُحِدَّ أَحَدُكُمْ شَفْرَتَهُ، وَلْيُرِحْ ذَبِيحَتَهُ"
From Shaddad ibn Aws (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah has prescribed excellence in all things. So if you kill, kill well, and if you slaughter, slaughter well. Let each of you sharpen his blade and spare his animal suffering."
Hadith 18
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ جُنَادَةَ وَأَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "اتَّقِ اللَّهَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْت، وَأَتْبِعْ السَّيِّئَةَ الْحَسَنَةَ تَمْحُهَا، وَخَالِقْ النَّاسَ بِخُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ"
From Abu Dharr and Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with them), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Fear Allah wherever you are, follow a bad deed with a good one and it will wipe it out, and deal with people with the best of character."
Hadith 19
عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: كُنْت خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمًا فَقَالَ: "يَا غُلَامُ! إنِّي أُعَلِّمُك كَلِمَاتٍ: احْفَظْ اللَّهَ يَحْفَظْك، احْفَظْ اللَّهَ تَجِدْهُ تُجَاهَك..."
From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), I was behind the Prophet ﷺ one day and he said to me: "Young man, I shall teach you some words: Be mindful of Allah and He will be mindful of you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you…"
Hadith 20
عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَنْصَارِيِّ الْبَدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "إنَّ مِمَّا أَدْرَكَ النَّاسُ مِنْ كَلَامِ النُّبُوَّةِ الْأُولَى: إذَا لَمْ تَسْتَحْيِ فَاصْنَعْ مَا شِئْت"
From Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Among the words people have kept from the earlier prophets is: If you feel no shame, do as you wish."
Hadith 21
عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، وَقِيلَ: أَبِي عَمْرَةَ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قُلْت: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا غَيْرَك. قَالَ: "قُلْ: آمَنْت بِاَللَّهِ، ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ"
From Sufyan ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam that I need ask no one but you about." He said: "Say: 'I believe in Allah', then be upright."
Hadith 22
عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ: أَرَأَيْت إذَا صَلَّيْت الْمَكْتُوبَاتِ، وَصُمْت رَمَضَانَ، وَأَحْلَلْت الْحَلَالَ، وَحَرَّمْت الْحَرَامَ، وَلَمْ أَزِدْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا؛ أَأَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟ قَالَ: "نَعَمْ"
From Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them), a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "If I perform the obligatory prayers, fast Ramadan, treat as lawful what is lawful and as unlawful what is unlawful, and add nothing to that, shall I enter Paradise?" He answered: "Yes."
Hadith 23
عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الْإِيمَانِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ تَمْلَأُ الْمِيزَانَ، وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ تَمْلَآنِ -أَوْ: تَمْلَأُ- مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ..."
From Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Purification is half of faith, 'Alhamdulillah' fills the scales, 'SubhanAllah' and 'Alhamdulillah' fill what is between the heavens and the earth…"
Hadith 24
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ الْغِفَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِيمَا يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: "يَا عِبَادِي! إنِّي حَرَّمْت الظُّلْمَ عَلَى نَفْسِي، وَجَعَلْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ مُحَرَّمًا؛ فَلَا تَظَالَمُوا..."
From Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet ﷺ related from his Lord, who said: "O My servants, I have forbidden injustice to Myself and have made it forbidden among you, so do not wrong one another…"
Hadith 25
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَيْضًا: أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! ذَهَبَ أَهْلُ الدُّثُورِ بِالْأُجُورِ؛ يُصَلُّونَ كَمَا نُصَلِّي، وَيَصُومُونَ كَمَا نَصُومُ، وَيَتَصَدَّقُونَ بِفُضُولِ أَمْوَالِهِمْ..."
Also from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), some Companions said to the Prophet ﷺ: "O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have taken all the reward: they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give charity from the surplus of their wealth…"
Hadith 26
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "كُلُّ سُلَامَى مِنْ النَّاسِ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ، كُلَّ يَوْمٍ تَطْلُعُ فِيهِ الشَّمْسُ تَعْدِلُ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ صَدَقَةٌ، وَتُعِينُ الرَّجُلَ فِي دَابَّتِهِ فَتَحْمِلُهُ عَلَيْهَا أَوْ تَرْفَعُ لَهُ عَلَيْهَا مَتَاعَهُ صَدَقَةٌ..."
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Every joint of the human body owes a charity every day the sun rises. To reconcile two people justly is a charity. To help someone onto his mount, or to help him lift his baggage onto it, is a charity…"
Hadith 27
عَنْ النَّوَّاسِ بْنِ سَمْعَانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "الْبِرُّ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ، وَالْإِثْمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي نَفْسِك وَكَرِهْت أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ"
From An-Nawwas ibn Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet ﷺ said: "Righteousness is good character; and sin is what troubles your soul and which you would hate people to find out about."
Hadith 28
عَنْ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: وَعَظَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَوْعِظَةً وَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ، وَذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْعُيُونُ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! كَأَنَّهَا مَوْعِظَةُ مُوَدِّعٍ فَأَوْصِنَا..."
From Al-Irbad ibn Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us an exhortation that moved our hearts and brought tears to our eyes. We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, it is as if this were a farewell exhortation, so give us your counsel…'"
Hadith 29
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قُلْت: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ وَيُبَاعِدْنِي مِنْ النَّارِ، قَالَ: "لَقَدْ سَأَلْت عَنْ عَظِيمٍ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيَسِيرٌ عَلَى مَنْ يَسَّرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ..."
From Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will bring me into Paradise and keep me away from the Fire." He said: "You have asked about something great, and it is easy for the one whom Allah makes it easy for…"
Hadith 30
عَنْ أَبِي ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيِّ جُرْثُومِ بْنِ نَاشِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "إنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى فَرَضَ فَرَائِضَ فَلَا تُضَيِّعُوهَا، وَحَدَّ حُدُودًا فَلَا تَعْتَدُوهَا..."
From Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah has laid down obligations, so do not neglect them. He has set limits, so do not overstep them…"
Hadith 31
عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! دُلَّنِي عَلَى عَمَلٍ إذَا عَمِلْتُهُ أَحَبَّنِي اللَّهُ وَأَحَبَّنِي النَّاسُ، فَقَالَ: "ازْهَدْ فِي الدُّنْيَا يُحِبَّك اللَّهُ، وَازْهَدْ فِيمَا عِنْدَ النَّاسِ يُحِبَّك النَّاسُ"
From Sahl ibn Sa'd as-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him), a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, show me a deed that, if I do it, will make Allah love me and people love me." He said: "Have no desire for this world, and Allah will love you; have no desire for what people have, and they will love you."
Hadith 32
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "لَا ضَرَرَ وَلَا ضِرَارَ"
From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There should be no harming and no reciprocating harm."
Hadith 33
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "لَوْ يُعْطَى النَّاسُ بِدَعْوَاهُمْ لَادَّعَى رِجَالٌ أَمْوَالَ قَوْمٍ وَدِمَاءَهُمْ، لَكِنَّ الْبَيِّنَةَ عَلَى الْمُدَّعِي، وَالْيَمِينَ عَلَى مَنْ أَنْكَرَ"
From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If people were given whatever they claimed, some would claim the property and the blood of others. But the burden of proof is on the claimant and the oath on the one who denies."
Hadith 34
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: "مَنْ رَأَى مِنْكُمْ مُنْكَرًا فَلْيُغَيِّرْهُ بِيَدِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِلِسَانِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِقَلْبِهِ، وَذَلِكَ أَضْعَفُ الْإِيمَانِ"
From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever among you sees a wrong, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest degree of faith."
Hadith 35
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "لَا تَحَاسَدُوا، وَلَا تَنَاجَشُوا، وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا، وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا، وَلَا يَبِعْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَيْعِ بَعْضٍ، وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إخْوَانًا..."
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not envy one another, do not inflate prices against one another, do not hate one another, do not turn your backs on one another, and do not undercut one another in trade. Be, O servants of Allah, brothers…"
Hadith 36
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "مَنْ نَفَّسَ عَنْ مُؤْمِنٍ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ الدُّنْيَا نَفَّسَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَمَنْ يَسَّرَ عَلَى مُعْسِرٍ يَسَّرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ..."
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever relieves a believer of a hardship in this world, Allah will relieve him of a hardship on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes things easy for one in difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and the next…"
Hadith 37
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِيمَا يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ رَبِّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَالَ: "إنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَالسَّيِّئَاتِ، ثُمَّ بَيَّنَ ذَلِكَ: فَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً..."
From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ related from his Lord: "Allah has written down good deeds and bad deeds, then made them clear: whoever intends a good deed and does not do it, Allah writes it for him as a complete good deed…"
Hadith 38
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: "إنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى قَالَ: مَنْ عَادَى لِي وَلِيًّا فَقَدْ آذَنْتُهُ بِالْحَرْبِ، وَمَا تَقَرَّبَ إلَيَّ عَبْدِي بِشَيْءٍ أَحَبَّ إلَيَّ مِمَّا افْتَرَضْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ..."
From Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah the Most High has said: 'Whoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I declare war upon him. My servant draws near to Me with nothing more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him…'"
Hadith 39
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: "إنَّ اللَّهَ تَجَاوَزَ لِي عَنْ أُمَّتِي الْخَطَأَ، وَالنِّسْيَانَ، وَمَا اسْتُكْرِهُوا عَلَيْهِ"
From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah has pardoned for my community mistake, forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do."
Hadith 40
عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِمَنْكِبِي، فَقَالَ: "كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّك غَرِيبٌ، أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ" وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا يَقُولُ: إذَا أَمْسَيْت فَلَا تَنْتَظِرْ الصَّبَاحَ، وَإِذَا أَصْبَحْت فَلَا تَنْتَظِرْ الْمَسَاءَ، وَخُذْ مِنْ صِحَّتِك لِمَرَضِك، وَمِنْ حَيَاتِك لِمَوْتِك

Nawawi's 40 Hadiths: an essential guide for every Muslim
In the 13th century, Imam An-Nawawi compiled a collection of forty authentic hadiths that sum up the foundations of Islam. These sayings of the Prophet Muhammad touch every aspect of Muslim life, from faith to social relations.
