Sahih Muslim: 42 books and more than 7,500 hadiths in Arabic and English

Sahih Muslim is one of the two most authentic hadith collections in Islam, along with Sahih Al-Bukhari. It brings together more than 7,500 hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in 42 thematic books and 261 chapters, presented here in Arabic and English.

Imam Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Qushayri an-Naysaburi (204-261 AH) was a hadith scholar from Nishapur. He selected about 7,500 hadiths out of more than 300,000 known traditions. His Sahih stands out for the continuity of its chains of transmission and for gathering every hadith on a given subject in one place.

The collection opens with Faith, Purification, Menstruation, Prayer, Mosques, the Traveller's Prayer, Friday, the two Eids, then Funerals, Zakat, Fasting, Pilgrimage and Marriage. Then come Trade, Oaths, Legal Punishments, Dress, Dreams, the Virtues of the Prophet, the Companions, Dhikr, Repentance, Asceticism and Quranic Commentary.

Both collections are recognised as the most reliable, and a hadith reported by both has the highest degree of authenticity. Most scholars place Sahih Al-Bukhari first, but Sahih Muslim is valued for its arrangement: each subject gathers all its versions together, which makes comparing the chains of transmission easier.
