A Tawaf and Sa'i counter for Hajj and Umrah

The tawaf is seven circuits around the Kaaba, made anticlockwise, with the Kaaba on the pilgrim's left. Each circuit begins and ends level with the Black Stone. In the dense crowd of the Sacred Mosque it is easy to lose count: the counter on this page records each circuit at a single tap and tells you when you reach the seventh.

The Sa'i is the walk between the hills of Safa and Marwah, in memory of Hajar searching for water for her son Ismail. It is made up of seven trips: the first from Safa to Marwah, the second from Marwah to Safa, and so on to the seventh, which ends at Marwah. The Sa'i tab of the counter shows your starting and finishing point at each stage.

Most scholars hold that in case of doubt you go by what is certain: keep the lower number you are sure of and complete the missing circuits. Repeating an incomplete tawaf or Sa'i can disrupt a tight pilgrimage schedule, which is why a reliable counter is useful: it frees your mind for supplication and for reading the Quran.

Yes; nothing forbids using a counter, prayer beads or your fingers to keep track of the circuits: the rite simply requires seven complete circuits. No particular supplication is prescribed during the tawaf; it is recommended, though, to recite Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone, and to make many duas and much dhikr throughout.
