Scientific and mathematical miracles of the Quran

The page presents verses that meet modern knowledge: the origin of the universe from a compact mass, the expansion of the universe, the orbits of the heavenly bodies, mountains as stabilising pegs, the barrier between fresh and salt water, the darkness of the deep seas, the stages of the development of the embryo, the water cycle and the heavenly origin of iron. Dr Maurice Bucaille was a French physician, a gastroenterologist, who was the doctor of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. He devoted a great part of his life to comparing the holy Scriptures with modern scientific data. His conclusion, set out in his book on the Bible, the Quran and science, is that the Quran contains no statement contradicting established scientific knowledge.

Several counts bring out multiples of 19: the Quran has 114 surahs, that is 19 × 6, and the Basmala has 19 letters. Verse 30 of Surah Al-Muddathir does indeed mention the number 19. These observations remain debated: some results vary with the method of counting, as the page points out, and most scholars do not found faith on such calculations.

In Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:47), Allah says that He built the heaven with power and that He is expanding it. Many contemporary commentators see in this a reference to the expansion of the universe, a phenomenon discovered in the 20th century. This verse is one of the most cited examples of agreement between the Quran and modern astronomy, alongside the verses on the orbits and the origin of the universe.

In Surah Yunus (10:92), Allah announces to Pharaoh, at the moment of his drowning, that his body will be saved to serve as a sign for later generations.
